First of all, you need to choose the right batter.  Lower capacity batteries will just wear out faster as compare to a battery with higher capacity since they need to be charged more often.

You can also use the power saving controls in your notebook to reduce your battery use in normal days.  You can turn off your Bluetooth if it is not needed.  If the condition permits, you may also reduce the brightness in the screen.

Avoid exposing your laptop and battery to extreme temperature.  Allow them to cool down or warm up before using them or charging them if they have been exposed to extreme hot or cold temperature.
