A flange is an external rim that is used for strength.  A flange is used for many differnet purposes.  You can find flange in many items.  Among the most common places in which flange are used are in T beams and trains.  They are also used to attach items together.  Normally, flange are used in pipes to assemble them anytime.  They are used also din rails to prevent it from easily wearing out and also to keep the wheels din motion.  Flange are made from many various materials but most of them are made from steel.  They are useful for plumbing since they enable the system to keep strong for long and avoid incidents like leaking.  There are many types of pipe flange available.  A blind flange is a round plate without center and it is used to close piping systems.  The lap joints are fitted with the end of the lap joint stub.  They are used mostly for systems requiring constant inspection and cleaning since they are easy to install and remove without problems.  A threaded flange can be attached to pipe without the process of welding which is what makes it faster and easier for a plumbing job.  There are also some that are weld neck flange.  They are used for places with highe pressure since they have the capacity to reduce flow rate and to prevent pipe erosions.
