Throughout time there have been plenty of technology-related deaths. Technology can fail or go awry and the consequences can be lethal. But only some of these technology-related deaths can be seen as downright bizarre. Here are 6 of the most bizarre technology-related deaths.

Death By Robot

Robert Miller was killed by a robot on January 25, 1979. He was attempting to retrieve an object from a storage area at a Ford Motor Company factory located in Michigan when a robotic arm struck him in the head and killed him. This robot was actually made to retrieve objects but it performed its task slowly and clearly had insufficient safety measures in place.

Death By Starcraft

A man actually died because he played the online game of Starcraft so much. Lee Seung Seop died August 5, 2005 because he had played Starcraft for nearly 50 straight hours in an internet café. He stopped for bathroom breaks but this was not enough of a break from his addiction to prevent his death. Reports declared that he died from heart failure that was a result of dehydration and exhaustion.

The Overcoat Parachute Death

While this may not seem like advanced technology today, Franz Reichelt’s invention of the overcoat parachute was an example of advanced thinking. He was originally going to test it by launching a dummy wearing the overcoat off the Eiffel Tower but decided to take the fall himself at the last second. He fell to his death so his overcoat parachute was not really advanced technology back then either.

Helicopter Decapitation Death

Vic Morrow, an actor, was shooting the Twilight Zone: The Movie when a helicopter was thrown off course by some of the movie’s special effects and decapitated the actor with its rotor blades. Two child actors passed away in this incident as well which sparked some big changes in child labor laws and safety protocols for movie sets.

Death By Demonstrating Death

Yooket Paen was a 57-year-old Thai woman who slipped on some cow dung on her farm and mistakenly grabbed onto a live wire, was electrocuted, and died on the spot. Not too long after this incident, the victim’s sister, 52-year-old Yooket Pan, was re-enacting how the accident happened when she slipped, grabbed the same live wire that her sister did, and met the same untimely death.

A Necklace Bomb Death

A pizza delivery man named Brian Wells tried to rob a bank using a shotgun that was made to look like a cane. He was captured by police. When he told them that he was forced to rob the bank by some individuals he delivered pizza to earlier they were suspicious. He had a necklace bomb on that went off before the bomb squad could do anything about it. The bomb killed him and the truth of what happened seemed to die with him.

These are 6 of the most bizarre technology-related deaths ever. Technology can make life a lot easier but its power must be respected. When technology is misused or even just misfires then death can result.

Three Effective Exercises for Flat Belly
